SISAL IN MERIDA

The capital of the Yucatán is carved out of the overgrown landscape, blending Spanish and Mayan architecture in its streets and plazas. We toured the surrounding areas of Mérida, dotted with old sisal haciendas standing like relics of another era. We were lucky enough to explore an abandoned hacienda, visit a refurbished estate now operating as a Four Seasons, and see an active hacienda still producing sisal.
